Introduction :

First i will tell you what ftp stands for, FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Basically its a program which help's you to transfer files from your computer to your website easily. its help you to upload your files on your website like themes, stuff, plugins, and your database files and also allow you to change the permissions of files which is already uploaded and delete them to .

Starting :

now i will tell you how to use FTP server to use ftp server first you need to get some information releated to your website there is to kind of ftp server one is already in your domain cpanel and the other one is software so i am gonna tell you abot the first one when you open your domain cpanel you see alot of tabs like email, mysql database, etc and also the ftp so when you click on it it will ask you to enter your username and password.dont be confused the username and password are what you set when you added your domain to your host before building your website.
Example : www.yourdomain.com
username: youchoose
password: youchoose

now the second one is the software that runs on your computer to easily access the FTP Server of your domain. It asks you for the server address like i said www.yourdomain.com, username, password and port. about the port leave it default. so by the software you can easily transfer your files without opening your cpanel, some cpanel dont allow you to upload the large files so the ftp client allow you to upload the large files anyway once you are connected to the server using the FTP Client. You will see two tabs or like a explorer on the left side you see your computers directory/folders and on the right side you see your domain directory/folders so what you need to do is just copy and paste or drag and drop files to the server from your computer.

There are many ftp clients avilable on the market so what you want to do is just download and install FTP client on the computer. There are many of them what you want to is just to choose the best one some of them are free and some of them are not free.I prefer FileZilla, Filezilla is a free ftp client and the reliable one and the interface is so easy if u dont know where to find it i will give you the link where you can download it easily dont need to search it.

Ok so after all of that its time to set up your FTP Account. When you buy your domain from the hosting company all the details and information required are emailed to you by the hosting company. Like i said previously to access your account you must enter your FTP Host name, username, password and port or you can leave it default only port. after you enter all of it what you want to do is just look for the go or login button to acces your ftp and then you can transfer files from your computer to your website.

After that go to the folder where you want to upload your files then drag and drop files from your computer to the folder you choose.if dont want to show your files to the public and make it private so upload it on the main directory but if you want to show your files to the public then upload it in to the root folder which is named public_html. i prefer drag and drop method of file transfer is easiest. At the bottom of the page in FileZilla you can see the progress of the file transfer which is like a green bar, and really useful when transferring large files.

accidently when your website page goes down and someone hacked your website dont be worry about it because still you can access the files via FTP and try to restore it. Thats all
